Oversea s Reply to Buy My Tractor- Suspicious
I posted an ad on this site for a John Deere 1020 Diesel. I got two replies by email from Europe. One was from tyress - gum that read "hello seller,
am intrested in buying your machine at the rate of $7,500 .reply me if accept american cashier cheque as payment for conclusion and forward your phone # with your reply.

The other was from Tamil Sharkti that read "Hello,
We have a customer interested in purchasing your equipment for the price of $7,200.00
Please acknowledge our offer and indicate the present position of the item (send pictures in different views so we can access the face value of the order)
On comfirmation we will instruct the buyer, to have the funds remitted to your account as soon as possible. We will arrange a pick up of the (item ), once payment is confirmed by you the seller.

Anyone ever heard of this kind of offer to buy tractors before. It may be legit but I am suspicious. I replied to both just to see what response I would get.What do you think. Thanx in advance for your postings.

I have not heard of tractors but cars. It is not as hard as it was to ship overseas. You can ship a small container almost anywhere for 1K or less.

As long as you don't have to give away your account numbers or open an account for this transaction only you should be fine. I would wait for the money to come and secure it to know it is not a bogus check or payment to your account and allow shipping when funds have been perfected.

Beware! This sounds like the scam that has been run on sellers on ebay, and I saw a post about it at Yesterday's Tractors. It seems the buyers sent a check, but made up some story about needing to send excess funds for some reason, and having the seller to forward the excess to another party. I think he actually got the check and deposited it, but a few days later it came out that the check was a forgery. It took the bank a while to catch it, apparently a good fake. He reported it to authorities, and fortunately didn't lose anything. He was suspicious as you are, and acted cautiously. I'll look for the specific link and post it if I can find it.

I called the local FBI office with a similar E-mail scam a couple weeks ago. I think they actually yawned at me during the conversation. Bottom line: they were not the least bit interested.

It is a scam. Thanx for all the replies. I wish there was a good spot on this site for all to see this. I just got a reply from the scam artist. It reads.... "HELLO SIR,
THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY.
WELL, I WILL BUY THE MACHINE YOU WANT TO SELL FOR $7,500.
I WILL CONTACT MY CLIENT, WHO'S SUPPOSE TO REMMIT SOME
AMOUNT OF MONEY TO ME IN CASHIER'S CHECK, HE ALSO WILL
HANDLE THE SHIPPMENT, THE AMOUNT ON THE CASHIER CHEQUE
IS $13,000.
WHEN YOU HAVE DEDUCTED THE AMOUNT FOR THE
ORGAN($7,500),THE BALANCE WILL HAVE TO BE TRANSFERED TO
MY PERSONAL ASSISTANT HERE IN NIGERIA THROUGH WESTERN
UNION MONEY TRANSFER, SINCE I WILL BE OUT OF THE
COUNTRY FOR A CONFERENCE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. HE'S
GOING TO CLEAR THE ORGAN AT NIGERIAN'S PORT. LET ME
HAVE YOUR VIEW ABOUT THIS. ALSO, LET ME HAVE THE FULL
NAME AND ADDRESS THAT THE CASHIERS CHEQUE WILL BE

I also listed a tractor for sale on this site a couple of weeks ago and received the same e-mail from Tamil Sharkti. It didn't ring true to me either and i inquired about it to a dealer who frequents this site and he said that he had recieved a similar mail just the day before and was sure it was a scam.
Today i got the following e-mail.

I'm sure some people have fallen for this and lost there property and/or money.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
